NISO Webinar, Workflows across Systems - Innovation

Building interoperability into our systems requires partnering and collaboration — working together across stakeholder groups to develop useful approaches. What are the best ways to innovate? Are there better ways of exchanging data and information? What’s required to build those? How can partners work together to engineer systems that operate with integrity and protect data privacy? How can we avoid duplication of efforts across a community as broad as ours? Peter Murray

Open Source Community Advocate - Index Data

Peter Murray is the Open Source Community Advocate at Index Data, a software development and consulting enterprise with expertise in networked information retrieval and management based on open standards. He received an MLIS from Simmons College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Analysis from Miami University. Peter’s current activities include building relationships among libraries, organizations, and service providers participating in the FOLIO open source library service platform project. His other interests include the promoting the awareness and integration of privacy-supporting tools into library services, the application of JPEG 2000 for long-term access and preservation of still and moving image content, distributed identity management systems, and – with the moniker “The Disruptive Library Technology Jester” – the rapid advancement of library services in a social web world.

Rachel Vacek

Head of Design & Discovery, University of Michigan Library

Rachel Vacek is the Head of Design & Discovery at the University of Michigan Library where she oversees the public-facing interfaces across the library’s web presence. She manages a team of program managers, front-end developers, user interface designers, content strategists, and user experience and accessibility specialists. She regularly teaches workshops and speaks at local and national library conferences on library UX, discovery interfaces, service design, and library leadership. Rachel was a 2007 ALA Emerging Leader, a 2014 Library Journal Mover & Shaker, and the 2014-2015 Library & Information Technology Association (LITA) President. Scott Bernier

Senior Vice President, Marketing, EBSCO

Scott Bernier, who joined EBSCO in 1996, oversees community engagement, customer outreach, market research and marketing activity globally. Scott acts as a primary liaison between EBSCO and its many focus groups and advisory boards and has lead discussions and participated on panels at various library events and has worked on committees such NISO’s Open Discovery Initiative. Scott is an advocate for open access, open systems and open dialog to facilitate positive change.
