How adaptable have organizations and institutions in the information community proven themselves to be — in terms of COVID-19, and also in general during this period of technological and social change? How well are associations, government agencies and other funders, academic institutions, and other stakeholders managing? To what extent are they willing to innovate, whether through policy or practice? This roundtable will bring together industry professionals and observers, to offer their insights on the impact of disruption, and to share their success stories for negotiating change. Alix Vance

CEO, AIP Publishing, Inc.

Alexandra (Alix) Vance, CEO of AIP Publishing, has spent more than 20 years driving growth for innovative academic, scholarly, and professional publishing organizations. Before joining AIP Publishing in 2020, Alix was CEO of GeoScienceWorld, a leading nonprofit publisher of books, journals, and data in the Earth Sciences and partner to nearly 30 publishing organizations. She has held executive and advisory roles in nonprofit, commercial, and startup organizations in publishing and technology services, including at SAGE and eBookLibrary. Alix serves as the current chair of the Board of Directors of CHORUS. Alix is passionately interested in product and service development to meet emerging customer needs and is equally committed to transforming organizational models and culture. Alix is a graduate of Wellesley College with a master’s degree in social work and post-graduate training in clinical psychotherapy.

Denise Stephens

Peggy V. Helmerich Dean of University Libraries for the University of Oklahoma

Prior to assuming the role at Oklahoma, she was the vice provost and university librarian at Washington University at St. Louis (WUSTL). There she managed the university’s nine locations, their archives and special collections, and oversaw more than 150 professionals and support staff. She has also served as university librarian at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she planned and executed the $80 million expansion and update of the university’s library. Stephens has had leadership roles at several other academic libraries in the U.S., including the University of Kansas, where she held positions as strategic and organizational research librarian, information management coordinator and vice provost for information services. She also served as a librarian at Syracuse University and the University of Virginia. Stephens earned both her undergraduate degree and master of library and information science degree from the University of Oklahoma.

Jaime Wittenberg

Assistant Dean for Research & Innovation Strategies, University of Colorado - Boulder

Jamie Wittenberg is the Assistant Dean for Research and Innovation Strategies at the University of Colorado Boulder Libraries. Her portfolio includes acquisitions, digital asset management, discovery, cataloging, collection management, interlibrary loan, metadata, preservation, and IT. Wittenberg’s professional interests include community-developed open source software, research information management, digital preservation, and data curation. Her research includes work on automating open access policy implementation, publishing digital 3D objects, and building infrastructure to support sharing research data at scale.

Roger Schonfeld

Director, Libraries, Scholarly Communication, and Museums program, Ithaka S+R

Roger C. Schonfeld is director of Ithaka S+R’s Libraries, Scholarly Communication, and Museums program, which conducts research and provides advisory services to drive evidence-based strategic innovation to foster research, learning, and preservation. Roger also currently serves as a board member for the Center for Research Libraries. He was previously a research associate at The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and has received degrees in library and information science from Syracuse University and in English Literature from Yale University.
