Director of Library Assessment, Georgetown University Library
Emily Guhde is the Director of Library Assessment at Georgetown University Library, where the focus is not only upon developing a culture of assessment, but also a culture of improvement. She leads a small team of assessment staff and works with the library's Assessment Steering Committee to build capacity for evidence-driven decision-making. In 2017 she was invited to serve as a practitioner member of the Association of Research Libraries' Assessment Committee. Last year she also collaborated with her colleagues in the Washington Research Libraries Consortium to convene the WRLC Assessment Interest Group, which facilitates increased collaboration and resource sharing among assessment professionals in the consortium. She holds a BA in Philosophy from Wittenberg University and master’s degrees in Library Science and Public Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill.

We have the data and the report. Looking beyond the simple statistical report (how many individuals attended a program or searched a database), what might be best practices in using that data in support of long-term planning and decision making? What types of trends do libraries believe they might be seeing? Wrestling with library data should yield significant insights about the institution's needs. Libraries and those who serve them will benefit from understanding how data is being wrangled, mixed, and interpreted.
